Brief Description:  Petersburg Urban Ministries’ YouthBuild program allows young adults ages 16-24 to simultaneously work on GED completion, job skills, and leadership development through construction work on low-income houses.  These young people are given the opportunity to prepare for their future by working to better the lives of others.  This creative program lasts for 6 to 18 months.  The students spend half their time in construction and half in education and leadership education.  When they finish the program, students will have obtained their GED, received basic education, life skills, job skills, and leadership development.  They also will have acquired more specialized education, training, and experience in construction—and, of course, the invaluable experience of helping someone else in an amazing way.
