Brief Description: JFCS works with families identified by the schools as being in danger of becoming homeless.  This organization seeks to provide stability and security for children – the very things that are disrupted for youth who experience homelessness or frequent moves as their families attempt to avoid homelessness.  JFCS works with each family individually to keep them stable in their home and school.  Research has shown the negative impact that both homelessness and changing schools has on children, and JFCS works to protect children from these academic and emotional stressors. To meet this goal, the organization provides cash assistance, case management, and mental health services.  A certified mediator is available to negotiate with landlords and other social services to help the families with job, housing, food, and financial needs.  JCFS continues to follow up with the family after the immediate emergency is over to ensure stability and security, continuing to assist them with needs they may have.
