Do Your Volunteers Have What it Takes to be a Part of a Youth Leadership Program?

Use this self-assessment checklist to determine whether your organization’s current volunteers will work well as helpers in a youth leadership development program.

  •          Are your volunteers willing to put the needs of the youth before their own?
  •  Are your volunteers willing to empower youth, "turning over the reins" to them to do all they are capable of doing?
  •  Are your volunteers willing to teach youth to think independently, giving them problems to solve rather than answers to remember?
  • Are your volunteers looking for progress in youth, not perfection?
  • Are your volunteers willing to SHOW love rather than PREACH it?
  • Are your volunteers willing to give encouragement far more than criticism?
  • Are your volunteers willing to see the significance and potential in each individual youth?
  •  Are your volunteers reliable and available?  So much of the job is simply showing up.
  • Are your volunteers teachable? Are they willing to learn—even from the youth?
