Adult premarital sex
Whitman, D. (1997, May 19). "Was it good for us? Adult premarital sex is the ‘sin’ Americans wink at. But if you think casual sex is a problem only for teenagers, take a look at the numbers for grown ups." U.S. News and World Report.
*The Center for Youth Studies is pleased to have the following article review offered by a high school student. We believe that insight from young people themselves is important for today’s youth workers.
OVERVIEW
Many studies have shown that there are many more twentysomethings than teenagers who are giving birth to children out of wedlock. In l994, only 22% of the mothers who gave birth out of wedlock were teens, while more than half were 20-29 years old.
Premarital sex is more common with people in their 20s than it is with teens. In fact, a recent study conducted by governmental agencies showed that the number of teens having sexual intercourse before marriage has decreased for the first time since the 1970s.
Also, teens account for a smaller percentage of unwed births today than they did 20 years ago. Premarital sex is not limited to teens; it extends to a large percentage to adults.
One main cause of the outbreak of premarital sex in society is television. Television regulalry portrays adults and teens having premarital sex. It is common on almost every prime time television show. Many teens and adults watch these TV shows and believe that it is OK to have premarital sex. In fact, premarital sex has become so common that attempts to fight and prevent it are limited.
The condemnation of adult and teen premarital sex has been eliminated from much religious preaching in society. However, premarital sex is still seen as a sin, and the Catholic Church still advocates the practicing of abstinence until marriage.
QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION AND DISCUSSION
- What have you learned about premarital sex from this article?
- What is a main cause of premantal sex? Give an example of one from the 1990s.
- Why has the condemnation of premarital sex lessened in the last years?
IMPLICATIONS
- Abstinence prevents the potential effects of premarital sex. Waiting until marriage is the best choice.
- Contraceptives help to limit—but do not eliminate—the number of negative results of premarital sex.

Dear Friends! Since 2005, in
Dear Friends! Since 2005, in Pakistan, we have been ministering adult boys and girls who are involved in prostitution. It is a perilous and difficult job in Pakistan as compare to other countries of the world. A great number of adult Muslim boys and girls are dealing in prostitution. Quite the contrary, with the increase in inflation rate, Christian women have also started this contemptuous job. There are great many Christian women who work as house maids. The landlords compensate these women with a very little money after abusing sexually. Because these women are extremely poor and belong to a very dejected class, they accept this money and slowly get in this business. Not only we minister these Christian women but also the Muslim women. So, when we approach to the Muslim women, they think that we want to convert them in Christianity and they do not cooperate with us. But, we are not discouraged rather; we practically continuously approach these women. We believe our Lord Jesus Christ has shed his precious blood not only for the Christians, but also for the Muslims, Hindus and so forth. In Pakistan, it is difficult to approach and save these prostitutes because the government has banned all the whorehouses. The police are alert and watch over all the activities of these prostitutes, in the big cities. They do not let these whorehouses run. Because of this reason, all the prostitutes have spread around the country. Most of the prostitutes dwell in slum areas, adjoining to the big cities. They are carefully running their businesses underground. Even, they adopt small babies from the orphanages and show that they are having complete families. If, somehow, the inhabitants have a doubt on them, they inform the police. The police take bribe from the prostitutes and let them work in the slum areas. In this condition, to find out these prostitutes is a real challenge, but God helps us to meet this challenge. In this practice, we have contacted with some Christian female doctors and midwives who work in these areas. When the prostitutes come to them for abortions, they minister them. They slowly sow the seed of Gospel among them. The doctors and midwives encourage them to leave this wicked business. As a result, when any adult girl or woman repents at her sins and accepts Jesus Christ as her savior, we rescue her and provide her shelter. After this, the major problem we face is the survival of these women in society. To solve this problem, on a very small scale, we have opened one school. These schools professionally train these women in sewing clothes and beauty saloon. After getting the professional training from our schools, these women can live a healthy and saved life in the society. In Pakistan, we can not easily raise many funds for this cause. We highly appreciate those who contribute in this ministry a little. We also encourage you to pray for this ministry and give us your good suggestions. We want to start HIV awareness program but we don’t have any source of income.
May God bless you for His Glory! Amen!
Yours in Him
