I found a great article recently describing President Obama's recent efforts to expand national service programs. He recently signed a bill that will deliver $1.1 billion to AmeriCorps this year. What does that mean for us? This is going to triple the number of federally sponsered community service volunteers. Another great point was the creation of a $50 million "social innovation fund" that will provide matching urbanministry.org/grants" class="" title="Grant Resources">grants to non-profits organizations! This is a great step, among many that the President is taking to better the communities across the nation. Progress is a slow process but this seems promising, complimenting the existing organizations that are striving for the same goal.
