Volunteering at Wildlife Conservation Project
|
Description
Volunteers taking part in the Tsavo Conservation Experience have a lot of fantastic activities that they will take part in, from game census counts to game capture and release. Working with the Kenya Wildlife Service, a government-run environmental organisation, volunteers will spend a month or more studying the ecology, habitat and movements of animals within the Tsavo ecosystem. This is not an easy task considering that Tsavo, which is split into two different national parks (Tsavo East and West), is approximately the size of Israel. As volunteers wake up early for each morning's activities, whether it is following a herd of elephant to a watering hole or to do a vet check on a local pride of lion, volunteers will witness the beauty and soul of the African bush first hand. As well monitoring the wildlife and how they affect their habitat around them, volunteers will have the opportunity to work with local communities and create solutions whereby communities can learn to live without having a negative impact on the surrounding area. When volunteers are not in the field, they will help host meetings where members of the communities voice their concerns and trying to create realistic solutions to their problems. Highlights * Close encounters with Africa's Big 5 * Getting to know various herds of elephant and prides of lion * Wildlife tracking on foot * Game census counts * Anti-poaching patrols * Working with local communities * Capture and rescue Qualifications None except physical fitness and the will to work! Languages English Requirements: No qualification
