Description
Project Description: Youth For Life-Kenya was founded in Kenya in the year 2004 as non-profit organization. The main goal of Youth for Life-Kenya is to facilitate the development of capacities of individuals and groups in such a way as to improve the quality of their lives. The priority target group of Youth For Life-Kenya is the youth, children and young men and women between 10 and 30 years. Youth For Life-Kenya recognizes and appreciates the potential and assets inherent in young people. Her Endeavour is to promote the creation of an enabling environment in which youths are able to showcase their capabilities and to advocate for and provide accessible opportunities through which the youths can be involved in finding solutions and to acquire the needed knowledge and skills.
Activities undertaken by the group:
HIV/AIDS Edutainment Program-HIV/AIDS support group-Roses Of Life Initiative,Orphans and vulnerable children support program.
Girl Child Empowerment Program-Sanitary Towels Provision, Girl Child Mentorship Program.
Drugs And Me Program.
Environmental Management Program-Community Outreach, Community Environment Desk.
Youth Pay Back System; soft loans for entrepreneurship.
Youth Talk Show Program; Open Dialogue.
Mission: To reach out to the youth in the society, with the aim of facilitating integral growth through, Information Dissemination, Capacity Building, Networking And Knowledge Sharing.
Target Groups: The target group is the youth.
Location: Youth for life Kenya is located in Suburbs of Nairobi, Athi River about 40 km from Nairobi.
Nature of Work for the volunteers: The volunteers will engage in the following activities: organizing and carrying out trainings on safe sex, reproductive health drug abuse, HIV/AIDS prevention, Distribution of sanitary towels to needy girls.
Requirements:
o Male and female persons above the age of 18 years from any part of Kenya and the world regardless of race, religion or Education. Those below 18 should obtain written consent from guardian
o Positive attitude towards independent progress of others
o Willingness to adapt to local conditions
o A desire to interact and understand other people’s culture and philosophy of life
o Open-mindedness and willingness to freely exchange ideas, information and experiences without imposing own values on others
o Commitment to translating the ideals of international voluntary service into deeds during and after project season

What to bring for cultural exchange: Of course you do not have to bring anything with you but for intercultural exchange it is always interesting for the people in the community to see pictures of your home country and family or to taste a specialty of your home town.

This cost includes:
Food: Breakfast and dinner will be provided in the host family.
Cost: For your first month of participation, you will be required to pay a contribution of 20,400 Kenyan Shillings (approx. 213 EUR). The contribution for the first month includes fees for Airport transportation and the orientation week. For all months following the monthly contribution will be 15,000 Kenyan Shillings (approx. 165 EUR) per month. The participation fee is to be paid in full and in cash upon your arrival in Nairobi. Please note that CIVS does not accept any other currency than Kenyan Shillings.
Transfers: The volunteer will be picked up at the airport upon arrival as well as brought to the airport for departure.
