Volunteer Mentor

Description

Make a difference in the life of an inner city youth! The Orange County Youth Commission will bring hope and purpose to children and youth in the inner city by developing a partnership among the business/private sector and the faith community to provide wholesome activities that inspire, educate, train, and transform lives.

Our youth are males and females between the ages of 16 and 21 and many of them train at our Santa Ana Boxing Club.

The Boxing Club is open every weekday from 3 - 7pm for students to train and be taught by our highly motivated and dedicated coaches. Students learn discipline, self-respect, and commitment while staying off the streets and away from the local gangs.

Matches meet 1-2 times per month and do things such as going to a baseball game, hanging out over coffee, visiting a college campus, working on a resume, job searching, going to the beach and spending time talking with one another.

Our youth come from low-income families, have poor school performance, and live in a high crime and gang area in Santa Ana.

Requirements:
We are looking for mentors who have a sincere desire to be personally involved with a Santa Ana youth.

We are looking for mentors who are able to communicate with youth openly without judgment and have strong listening skills.

We are looking for mentors who exhibit a great deal of common sense, intelligence, friendliness, maturity, sensitivity, responsibility and patience.

*The Orange County Youth Commission requires a written application, interview with Mentor Coordinator, two character references, FBI/DOJ Live Scan Fingerprint Background Check and orientation.
