Internship Title: Volunteer Computer Class Teacher
Experience/Background: Education, TESOL, linguistics or related experience preferred
Volunteer Position Location: 620 S. Elm Street, Suite 315, Greensboro, NC
Commitment: Must be able to commit to 2 two-hour classes per week (4 hours per week) for 4 months. In addition, you must commit at least another 1-2 hours a week to planning the lesson. Morning, afternoon, and evening time slots are available for you to teach the class.
Volunteer Job Description:
The Computer Class teacher will help refugees and immigrants improve their English language skills and their computer literacy skills. This is a very, very basic class. You will be teaching computer skills to people who have never used a computer before. Teachers will be responsible for teaching the class on their own. A curriculum and lesson plans are already created for you to use. You will need to know how to use a projector to show the students what they should be doing on the screen in the classroom. Teachers will be supervised and trained by the lead ESL teacher. Volunteer will participate in an intensive Saturday training before teaching begins to make sure you are fully prepared. Classes will begin spring 2012.
Experience: Volunteers should be professional, patient, and have a strong handle of the English language. Volunteers with an interest or experience in teaching English Language Learners would be helpful. ESL teachers must be able to commit to 2 two-hour class sessions per week.
Requirements:
• Adults Ages (20+)
• Consent to and pass a background screening
• Attend a training session before volunteer position begins (Training will be in Jan. 2012)

Training: There is a training component to this position; one volunteer orientation and one day of classroom observation. The time between the first orientation and the first day of teaching is approximately one-two weeks.
