Teen Drop-in Center-Morning Volunteer

Description
New Horizons Ministries (NHM) requires daytime volunteers to be involved in the lives of the youth we serve by doing day drop-in, street outreach and Life Discovery activities. Our desire is to represent Christ to these kids in every interaction through the tangible services we offer and the relationships we hope to build.
Requirements:
Hours &
Commitment: Mornings/Daytime hours 9:00 am-12:30 pm or as assigned
A minimum of a one (1) year commitment is expected.
Commitment: Staff work one daytime shift per week or a total of 4 shifts each month (this does not include weekly Thursday staff meetings.) This includes a combination of morning drop-in, street outreach, and Life Discovery shifts.
Life Discovery: Staff will work at least 3 daytime Life Discovery activities every quarter.
Outreach: Staff will work at least one street outreach shift every other month.
Follow-up: Is allowed, but optional. Follow-up may include jail and hospital visitations, taking a youth to church, making referrals for housing, employment and chemical dependency treatment, or getting together with a youth for coffee.
Attendance at the weekly Thursday staff meeting from 6:00-7:30 pm.
Attendance at 2 client-related events, both fundraising events, and the all staff retreat.
Single Point Accountability:
Initiate contact with clients.
Document interactions (phone, written, in-person) with clients, keeping the Outreach Services Coordinator and other NHM staff informed of your client relationships/activities.
Work as a team with other staff to provide client support & back up, give feedback to other staff on their work, and to provide direct supervision of clients in the drop-in center and during Life Discovery events.
Ensure a safe, non-threatening, controlled environment in the drop-in center, maintaining the drop-in center policies, rules, and procedures.
Participate in opening & closing procedures as delegated by the Daytime Staff.
Inform Daytime Staff of any referrals, disciplinary actions, or crisis.
Keep the Life Resources Coordinator informed of your availability to assist with Life Discovery events.
Update the Life Resources Coordinator on client progress during Life Discovery events as well as give feedback about the event when appropriate.
Participate in the weekly staff meetings, suggesting discussion topics and/or clients to staff to the Outreach Services Coordinator when appropriate.
