Although the Arusha branch of the organization is fairly small, they still facilitate many important projects for the area. They can only afford to support two full-time staff members, who work on all administration, project development, communication with the main branch in Dar es Salaam, also field work and community awareness.
With the help of a dedicated administrative volunteer, the society would be able to be more effective and efficient, complete their projects earlier, and provide more educational sessions. By assisting the staff in organizing their time and projects, the volunteer would be providing an invaluable service.
Volunteers at this placement would be working to organize information sessions and presentations for the Greening Program at local schools. This programs aim is to improve local school yards through their endeavor as well as to educate school children on the importance of wildlife conservation in their community. In addition to scheduling and preparing for these sessions, you may also be asked to assist in preparing collateral such as brochures for the presentations.
The society is also currently conducting some field research in the Lake Natron region, working to improve the living conditions for the flamingos and protect the area from industrialization. Volunteers can assist by preparing proposals for this project and other similar projects. These proposals will allow the organization to continue their altruistic work.
Volunteers will also be asked to write articles for the Wildlife Conservation Society of Tanzania's quarterly newsletter, that is used to raise awareness regarding environmental issues as well as detail the work done by the organization.
