Description

A Mentor with the Little Lights Urban Ministries is a caring, responsible, Christian adult volunteer who serves as a trusted friend and guide to a student in Little Lights. He or she helps to ensure that the student senses care and support, learns life skills and lessons, and is exposed to new opportunities and a wide array of resources. Mentors will help the student make positive life choices, stays in school, and graduates with a plan for pursuing post-secondary education or self-sufficiency.

Requirements:
Mentoring Requirements

To get started as a mentor, volunteers must complete all of the following:

Submit (1) Mentor Application; (2) Proof of Auto Insurance (if applicable) and (3) Tuberculosis (TB) test results from within the past 12 months

Submit three references: (1) Two references from a pastor/spiritual leader that you have known for at least 1 year and (2) reference from a friend or co-worker that you have known for at least 1 year

Pass a criminal background check (cost $10.00)

Group interview with Mentoring Coordinators and a member of the LL Leadership Team

Meet with child?s parent and a Mentoring Coordinator

Mentors are expected to:

Commit for at least 1 year

Spend at least 5-10 face-to-face hours a month with your mentee.

Submit monthly reports.

Attend Saturday monthly meetings (first Saturday of every month)
You can miss three of these per year

If you cannot make it, please communicate with a mentoring coordinator the reason why you cannot attend

The first 3 months of mentoring are to be spent in a group setting with other mentors/mentees

Refrain from inviting child into own home until after at least 6 months
