Description

We distribute food, water, and clothing items to homeless and street-involved people in Central Square. We also engage in conversation with them about life, faith, and whatever's on their mind. When people are interested, we help to connect them with resources in Cambridge and Boston.

We meet on Monday nights from 6:30 to 8:30 (late fall to early spring) and 7:00 to 9:00 (mid-spring to mid-fall). Depending on the season, we spend between 30 and 90 minutes of that time outdoors. The rest of the time is devoted to Bible study and prayer for members of the group, as we are also a small group of the Greater Boston Vineyard. We hope that all members will stay for the latter part of the meeting, though members are of course free to leave whenever they wish.

Requirements:
We welcome everyone who wishes to be part of this group. We do ask for all newcomers to commit to attending the group twice before making a decision, as the experience can be quite different from week to week. In order to develop meaningful relationships with those on the street, we encourage all participants to come as regularly as possible. In addition to consistency, willingness to listen - with patience - to the people we encounter in Central is very, very important to us.

We do not require formal training, but those of us who have attended Starlight's quarterly trainings have found them very informative, and we encourage new volunteers to attend the next scheduled training.
