GED Tutor
|
Description
The GED tutoring program is a relational ministry that seeks to represent Christ as we build redemptive relationships with students within the context of GED tutoring.
Tutors work one on one with students, building their knowledge and skill base as they build relationships by creating a supportive, encouraging and safe learning environment.
Requirements:
Responsibilities:
1. Pray for the students, families, ministry, staff and volunteers.
2. Explore current student understanding of specific concepts and skills and then patiently explain and creatively teach correct information.
3. Provide a safe, encouraging, gracious support to struggling students.
4. Arrive on chosen day weekly, on time, and ready to go.
5. Prepare for students by having materials ready to go and record student progress.
6. Communicate with GED Coordinator about student progress and next steps.
7. Grade, correct, re-explain and move on to the next lesson with students.
8. Communicate with GED Coordinator about absences, needs, ideas, struggles, and successes.
9. Cooperate with GED Coordinator and other tutors and respect the authority of the staff, which is there to guide, protect and help you and the ministry.
10. Promptly read staff emails, newsletters and all mailings from ROP and respond promptly where appropriate.
Time Commitment:
• One time, 6 hour training session before working directly with the students.
• Six week trial period of one 2 hour session per week.
• Weekly participation of one 2 hour session for one year.
• Occasional tutor team meeting after tutoring session.
• Special training seminars, with notice given in advance (if available).
Special Qualifications:
• Compassionate and gracious
• Creative & patient with good listening skills
• Willing to explain concepts and skills patiently and repeatedly
• Open to working with diverse students
• Graduated from high school or have GED
