Description

Friendly Visitor Program:
The Friendly Visitor Program is a weekly home visiting service to homebound seniors and disabled adults. It is designed to offer support, companionship and conversation, reading and paperwork assistance.

The main goal is to reduce loneliness and isolation when there are no friends or family members available. Visiting times are scheduled according to the availability of the Friendly Visitor and preferred time of the client. The Volunteer Coordinator provides consultation and supervision.

Requirements:
Time Commitment:
1 hour week phone calls and once a week or once a month visits to senior or disabled case management client. This is dependent on the volunteerÂ’s schedule; visits can also be done on the weekends or evenings.

Duties:

Volunteer will be responsible after a match has been made by the volunteer coordinator to continuously schedule visits or calls with the client

Volunteer must turn in a Monthly Volunteer Report via email/Fax or mail at the beginning of the month describing the visits and or calls

Must communicate to the coordinator any concerns, problems or questions related to the clientÂ’s well-being

Must attend a one-time two hour training presented by the volunteer coordinator.

Volunteer will be receiving a background check by the agencyÂ’s human resource department.

Qualifications:

Volunteer must be 18 years of age and have good interpersonal communication skills and ability to build and facilitate good working relationships with staff and clients. Exercise sound judgment and discretion when handling sensitive and confidential information. Must have a passion to serve disabled adults and the senior population. This position requires a one year commitment.

Training:

Orientation to Independence at Home programs, Faith in Action/Volunteer Action for Aging volunteer opportunities and an orientation to elder care and aging conducted by the Volunteer Coordinator (2 hours). May attend the Volunteer Network Group held on the following dates:

May 5th 10-11:30AM
June 28th 10-12 PM

Our networking workshops provide an opportunity to learn and share creative ideas and stories with other volunteers.

Training is scheduled for the following dates:

April 14th 10-12PM
May 5th 1:30-3:30PM
June 2nd 10-12PM
June 28th 1:30-3:30
