Family Advocate

Description
Long-term (12 months) volunteers needed to serve as caseworkers in rural eastern Kentucky counties. Volunteers provide emergency assistance (utility, food, building materials, household items) to families in crisis or in need of small but urgent home improvement projects. Volunteers also oversee CAP's Christmas Basket distribution and School Readiness programs and help to plan an annual Women's Retreat for women from impoverished counties. Much of a Family Advocate's time is spent doing home visits and needs assessment with participants. Volunteers in Family Advocacy should be independent and able to serve with little supervision. Positions located in several rural Eastern Kentucky counties.
Long-term volunteers receive room and board, a monthly stipend, health insurance, potential AmeriCorps Education Award (when available), and potential loan deferment. Minimum age to volunteer for this position is 21.
