Description
Colegio Evangelico Nueva Luz is located in Nagua, on the north coast of the Dominican Republic.
Our school is a mixed school offering formal Spanish education to pre-school, elementary, middle and High school students of Nagua area.
Our school has 270 students, aged from 3-14. The youngest children - aged 3-5, attend the Guarderia (nursery). Then there are 8 grades of First School (6-14 years), and then 4 High School grades.
We started a new Bilingual Project in September 2011, teaching ESL to all students at the College. This is supported by volunteer TEFL teachers, as well as the permanent teaching staff.
We aim to encourage the students to value education, to mentor them, and to bring to this area all the improvements delivered by better education.
Requirements:
Colegio Nueva Luz is seeking a volunteer ESL teacher for early-years students (from 3 to 7 years old). The teacher will be required to deliver ESL lessons to 1st and 2nd grade students (aged 5-6), in total 11 x 40-minute sessions a week, and also to provide ESL and general assistance to the nursery (aged 3 to 5).
Our volunteer ESL teachers are primarily involved in teaching English to all grades. A formal ESL qualification is required and mat least 1 year of classroom experience would be advantageous; however we will consider applications from NQTs. The ability to support the teaching of other subjects - Math, Chemistry, Physics, Biology would also be a distinct advantage.
This is a voluntary post. The initial contract will be until June 2012. Volunteers will be provided with meals and housing (and transport to/from the airport at the start/end of the contract). Accommodation would be with a host family.
Participants should have a positive attitude, be ready to adopt and enjoy simple living conditions, be flexible and patient. Volunteers should respect the local people and culture.
This position is for an immediate start. The school year is underway already.
