Description

Hospital Sangolquí supports its management in an Integral Health Attention, leaded to the population of Rumiñahui Canton, starting in the new model of Health Attention in the next levels: individual, familiar, of the community and intercultural levels. Hospital Sangolquí's mission is to provide services for free in a progressive way with the participation and control of people involved.
Hospital Sangolquí serves the people of Rumiñahui Canton by providing many different medical services to the community. The hospital hosts specialists, general surgeons, emergency services, and first-aid attention, among others.
Hospital Sangolquí was created by the Government in 1970 like a basic hospital. The Health Ministry at that time created it because there were many people without access to health services. They were unprivileged people who didn't have access to social security. The actual government has created different public hospitals all around Quito, and little by little poor people are having more access to public health.
Hospital Sangolquí offers different services like general medicine, pediatrics, gynecology and basic surgery. One of the most important successes Hospital Sangolquí has achieved is to having had access to disperse population, through medical campaigns, and visits of the doctors to the poor areas where people don't know they could go to a hospital to receive medical attention.

Why does this organization need volunteers?

Hospital Sangolqui, is a hospital that attends to a large number of people requiring medical attention and there is never enough staff to meet their requirements. Volunteers are greatly needed in all departments in the hospital to help with this huge work load. For this reason volunteers are greatly appreciated in the work they do and also for the element of compassion and caring they provide--thus helping to add to a more positive atmosphere in the hospital.

What tasks will you be required to fulfil?

Volunteers would be asked to work in various departments and preform duties, depending on their qualifications and experience. Such as: blood pressure levels, measure and weigh patients, record data on patients files, assist doctors in numerous ways; while working in the emergency room you may be asked to make beds, clean areas after patients seen, restock supplies plus more.

Requirements:
Volunteers do not need to have any previous medical experience to help at this clinic, although it would be an asset! This volunteer opportunity would be an ideal placement for a pre-med volunteer who is looking to volunteer at a hospital in Ecuador. The volunteer opportunities at this Ecuadorian hospital would be an excellent match for someone who is interested in volunteering in different areas of a hospital and motivated to do any volunteer work that is needed.
