Description
We need married couples to assist with our relationship skills education program for unmarried couples that are pregnant or parenting an infant. Volunteers attend the program with the students, participate in group discussion and teach specific exercises during breakout sessions. A short training is required (about 2 hours). In addition to relationship coaching, coaches serve as life examples and mentors for these young couples.
Requirements:
Volunteers should have a heart for helping youth from different cultures and lifestyles to learn family values they may not have seen in their own family. The "skills" required are a stable marriage, love and compassion for others and a willingness to share some of your own experiences in relationships (good and bad). Volunteers must be available as a couple to attend one entire education series at a time, which is four Monday evening sessions in a row (one month). The number of months of service per year is flexible. While we teach Christian principles and family values, our program is federally funded and forbids staff and volunteers from any direct biblical proselytizing.
