Description

Position Description:
The Center Support Intern position is a great opportunity to gain valuable nonprofit program experience while educating at-risk youth. Working directly with the Center Supervisor staff member on site the Center Assistant Intern will lead groups of 3-10 students with group tutoring activities if it is needed on a particular night. Other activities will include homework assistance, reading assistance and the facilitation of skill building practices with individual students. This position will also support staff with classroom set-up and tear down, correction of materials, curriculum development and implementation, record keeping, conflict resolution and program coordination.

Requirements:
Preferred Experience:
1. 1 year experience working with youth or leading groups. Experience may include teaching or tutoring for an after school program, former camp counselor experience or involvement as a youth group leader.
2. Proven ability to work with youth in a respectful and positive manner, focusing on increasing self esteem and academic skills.
3. Cultural competence in working with low income youth and families from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
4. Academic competence in reading, writing and math.
5. Good interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
6. Positive role model skills and ability to motivate youth in their academic and personal goals.
