After School Tutor

Description
You always thought that the Sherpas who lead mountaineers up Everest were the real heroes. Why not be that guide for inner-city students who are scaling the heights of academic achievement? We are seeking one or two tutors to help out with our After School program. Tutors are needed to give basic homework help beginning at 3:00, in addition to more intensive help. Oh, and don't forget your oxygen mask.
POSITION TITLE: After School Program Tutor
LOCATION: 790 Columba Rd, Dorchester, MA 02125
TIME REQUIREMENT: flexible, within 2:45-4:45 every school day but Fridays (at least one hour per week).
PURPOSE: The Tutor will offer students encouragement and guidance during homework time.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Tutor is responsible for the following:
(1) Arriving on time each week.
(2) Patiently guiding the students through their work.
(3) Always maintaining a courteous, friendly, and optimistic attitude toward the students.
REPORTS TO: The Tutor reports to the Program Director. Most questions, however, could be answered by the Program Coordinator or any of the teachers who staff the program.
BENEFITS: Tutoring is a difficult task requiring patience and determination, yet it is extremely rewarding. The little moments of discovery and enlightenment add up!

Requirements:
COMMITMENT EXPECTED: The Tutor is expected to commit to a weekly schedule for six to eight school weeks, for at least one hour a week. After six weeks, the time commitment can be re-evaluated and, if interested, the volunteer may be invited to commit for a longer period of time.
DRESS CODE: Pope John Paul students wear a uniform (slacks and polos for the young men, kilts and polos for the young women). Because of this, we ask our volunteers to dress accordingly (with the same heart). No specific dress code is required, but volunteers should aim for modesty and professionalism.
