Homosexual, Drug addicted Christians?
2007-12-20
Reviewer: Edward R. Vortek
In his book, Free At Last published by Moody Press, Dr. Evans wrote, "I consider the truth about our identity in Christ to be the greatest principle of Christian living in Scripture." At first glance such a statement may seem to be Christ exalting and quite harmonious with scripture. I mean, who would argue about the theological centrality of the believer's spiritual relationship with Christ.
So, what is this "greatest principle?" What does it look like? How does "our identity in Christ" apply in everyday life? In this regard Dr. Evans wrote...
"If you are in Christ, you are brand new. You are not the same person you were before, even though you may be doing things you did before." p. 12
"But if your identity as a person is rooted in your performance, you will always misdefine yourself." p. 30
"Nobody is born a drug addict or a homosexual. Christians may be performing in these unacceptable ways, but that's not who they are. It's an identity issue." p. 26
You see friend, Tony Evans' false teaching in Free At Last states that there are "saints who act more sinful than sinners even though they are on their way to heaven." p. 17 If this is true Christians may be drug addicts or homosexuals (as Evans teaches all throughout the book) and anybody could be saved and on his way to heaven and no judgments could be made based on behavior.
Remember friend, the next time you hear about a millionaire, Columbian drug lord he just might be one of many "saints who act more sinful than sinners even though they are on their way to heaven." When you next see a militant homosexual marching in a gay rights parade don't judge, he just may be confused about his "identity in Christ" and be among the "saints who act more sinful than sinners even though they are on their way to heaven."
Read The Lying Promise for a complete debunking of the frightening heresies published in this book.
I apologize for the disturbing nature of the preceding illustrations, but this is the false teaching that Tony Evans plainly spreads around the globe in Free At Last. This is what millions of dollars that God has entrusted to us supports when we buy a book from or write a check to Moody Press or Tony Evans.
Must Read - Absolutely Life-changing!

This is the most life-changing book I have read besides The Bible. Tony Evans explains God's grace in a way that made me understand it like I never have. Understanding God's tremendous love and grace toward us brings more peace than anything else.

Book was received very quickly and in very good condition. This was a used book - and even the protective cover was clean and untorn.
Solid Treatment of Liberty in Christ!

I especially admires Dr. Evans anecdotes to illustrate biblical truths. He has a handle on what it means to be free and enjoy new found liberty as a Christian. A great treatment on grace as well.
Excellent and Thought-Provoking Read

Reviewer: Michael Taylor
Evans has written a book that provokes you to think like a true Christian should think like. While some of the concepts may not be new, it doesn't hurt to be reminded lest we fall into the old fleshly traps our sin nature wants us in.
Among the important points covered in the book include:
1. Be careful of defining your identity by your performance.
2. The devil cannot get to us unless we let him.
3. Instead of giving part of your life to Jesus, give all of your life to Him!
4. Living by faith, as defined as believing God at His Word, pleases God and will activate His power in your life.
5. Principles of walking in the Spirit.
6. A description of what the flesh is and defining what walking in the flesh is.
7. Instead of focusing on your feelings about your circumstances, focus instead on Jesus.
8. Do not buy into the devil's lie that your situation is hopeless or unchangeable.
9. Our self-sufficiency creates a hard shell around us that prevents Christ from completely shining through. Instead, we need to realize our true self-insufficiency.
10. God keeps Himself distant from proud, self-reliant people.
An excellent and highly recommended read. Enjoy and be encouraged in the Lord!
