Crystal's Story: Community Career Day at Denver Rescue Mission

Crystal Spencer serves as a TechMission Corps Member at Denver Rescue Mission in Denver, Colorado

We decided to have people from the community come to The Crossing and talk to our elementary school kids about their careers.  God blessed us with a policeman, a fireman, a nurse, and a paramedic.   We felt that many of our kids here at The Crossing may not have ever thought about what they would want to do as a career.  Many of them have moved so many times and their parents have not had the funds and/or time to even talk with their kids about what they would like to do when they grow -up.

The kids loved this so much.  We had kids running around for a week saying, “I want to be a fireman.”   The kids even got to go inside of an ambulance.   We understand that these kids are young and what they say they want to be may change, but we also see the importance of educating them and helping them think about their future.  I recommend having a career day for kids at other sites.
