For her replicable project, Shasta Cole created a blogging program where her students could improve their writing and grammar skills while using blogging as an avenue of reflection, creativity, and self-expression.

In Luke 14 Jesus told the parable of the Great Banquet. In that story a man sent out invitations to a great feast but he was declined by his first invitees. The banquet master didn’t give up though and he ordered his servants out into streets, alleys, roads and country lanes to bring in guests to his banquet. I was disappointed with the turnout at our initial registration night, so I decided to delay by one week and try again. After the second registration we had 26 kids signed up. On Sunday that number increased to 28.   As Tuesday afternoon approached there was a last burst of activity and then anxious waiting. Would the kids come? Would God bless this new ministry? Or would all our efforts fail?

New Creation Lutheran Church / Iglesia Luterana Nueva Creación: Networking as a Foundation for Outreach

Half a block from New Creation Lutheran Church is an elementary school with 1,100 children. Weekday afternoons, Rev. Patrick Cabello Hansel often walks over from the church to make contact with the children and their parents as school gets out. The low curbside wall around the school yard boasts a colorful mural of cheerful pictures and positive slogans, painted through New Creation Community Center's youth employment program. Tulips blossom in the school yard, thanks to another church-sponsored project.

After sitting down with a pile of books about Child development, grantwriting, and Youth violence prevention...it occured to me that there is a deep depression in today's younger generations and how underfunded the organizations that work against poverty are.  Intergenerational cycle of crime and poverty is accepted, fortunately not coveted.  What are we to do about the belief in today's youth that having low expectations for yourself is acceptable?  What of the larger organizations that try hard to discuss ways to alleviate poverty, but come with no solutions. 

That is when we come in.  As a grassroots organization, we come into contact with our constituents
