Pornography and the Bible

What does the scriptures say about pornography or sexual immoralty? That is a great question to ask during this National Bible Week. Ephesians 5:3 says it all. "But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity." I don't know if you caught that, but the biggest key is NOT BE A HINT OF SEXUAL IMMORALITY. If there is any verse that talks about God's standard for sexual purity. This is it. Out of half of the books of the New Testament has something to sy about sexual immorality.

Pornography Addiction

I recently came across a book that addresses how a wife or girlfriend can address how to deal with the pain and struggles of finding out that their loved one is involved in sexual sin, whether that sin be lust, pornography or any other behavior. It is a great resource and a book that is a "must read" for any wife or girl friend who is struggling with these issues. The name of the book is called Living with Your Husband's Secret Wars, by Marsha Means. The author is Marsha Means. Her husband Pat wrote the book Men's Secret Wars. It contains some great advice from a woman who has been there. It also contains in the back of the book some great resources, How to Start a Support Group, A Workbook for the Healing Journey, and a resource directory.

Pornography Addiction in the church

How do we address pornography addiction in the church? That is a good question, and one that I wish the church would answer. And one that I wish personally the church would answer. But since I don't see that happening any time soon in the near future, I guess it is time we start to take the bull by the horn and start saying we want some answers. In March 2005, Christianity Tody, published the results of a study called "Christians and Sex" in their Leadership Journal. 680 pastors and 1,972 laypersons were surveyed, with the following results:

Pornography is not normal

An article appeared in the LA Times in which it was stated that Pornography for men is normal and anyone who views it is normal. So there is nothing wrong in viewing it.

Pornography is addictive as any other drug and sometimes worse. Over 70% of all men have struggled with pornography and over 30% of all women have struggled with pornography. I recently attended a Promise Keepers event at Charleston, WV, and we were asked what we struggled with the most, and some of the stuff suggested was pornography, workaholism, and absent fathers. 60% of all the men attending said pornography.

Pornography Addiction

As I was sitting here wondering what to write about God gave me an idea. So many people talk about what to do about internet pornography and how to deal with it. The first thing is to put a filter on the computer. There are many good filters out there, such as SafeEyes, BeSafe just to name a couple. I use K9 for my computer. But to make filters really work, you need someone else to put their password on the installation. Putting your own password on it, defeats the purpose of the filter. The next you need to do, is to get an accountability person. Now I know how hard that is to do. To tell another person that you are addicted to internet pornography. I know that is hard. It was hard when I did it. But looking back after a year, I am glad that I did.

My blog

This blog will be used to talk about an issue that is rarely discussed in churches today. But one that I feel needs to be brought out into the open. A recent survey said that 70% of men and 30% of women struggle with some form of pornography or sexual addiction. Throught this blog we will be discussing this very issue. And for those who may want to know how I know about this issue, is that I myself have struggled with pornography and internet pornography for more than 20 years. And it hasn't been until the past 2 years that I have been able to break free of the chains that held me in bondage. I will be discussing the terrible toll that it took on my family, and friends. And what it took to finally break the chains and that you too and break free of the bondage.

Who's Your Daddy Now?: The Cry of a Generation in Pursuit of Fathers

Whos Your Daddy Now addresses the key issue of our timeThe effects of fatherlessness on our culture. Doug Stringer writes eloquently about how the alarming rate of divorce, abandonment, rejection, pregnancy, abortion, alcohol, and drugs can typically be traced to a broken relationship with a father. This powerful book illustrates the heart of God and gives the reader a clear path to the affirmation, acceptance, and approval of a father. Doug draws from his own struggle with fatherlessness and the struggles of others to offer insight into the power of God. These stories of overcoming the fatherless experience make this book impossible to put down.
