I can vividly remember a conversation I had several years ago with a friend who was a national director of a large ministry. We were talking about their organization and how they planned to address the increasing amount of ethnic diversity in the locations where they were active. He explained how they were creating separate ministries for each ethnic group in those locations in order to “most effectively reach them with the Gospel” because “most people want to be with their own ethnicity”. When I asked if they had plans to eventually try to bring the different ethnic groups together into a multi-ethnic group he explained that they did not because it would “create an extra barrier to the Gospel” and then stated emphatically, “There is no biblical mandate for bringing people together of different ethnicities.” Do you believe that is true? How would you respond?

Pastor Mark Driscoll calls movies the new church in America and explains, "there are 'preachers' who are called filmmakers promulgating worldviews, philosophical systems, morals, and values." (listen to the sermon) There is no question that movies are one of the most powerful expressions of culture and values in our country.
When most people think of the alcoholics and addicts served by rescue missions, they think of the “Skid Row bum” – a disheveled older alcoholic who has lived on the streets for years.But, especially in recent years, the number of young female addicts who look to mission for help is on the rise.According to Dr. Susan Merle Gordon of the Caron Foundation, “Addiction doesn’t have the face most Americans imagine when they think of an alcoholic or drug addict."
Because history is largely based on perspective, many historical greats are seemingly omitted from history. For instance, it is believed by many that Rosa Parks was the first to protest the giving up of her seat to a white man. While this story is often heralded as a testimony of protest and change—particularly in relation to the formation of the Civil Rights Movement, there was a woman who refused to give up her seat 71 years before Rosa Parks. Her name was Ida B. Wells-Barnett.

Many things can (and will) be said about last night's historic election. Regardless if you felt it was an exciting victory or a crushing defeat, there is one thing we should all be able to agree on: our country has entered a multi-ethnic era. The election of our first African American president (who's biracial background embodies multi-ethnicity) is a powerful sign of how rapidly our society has changed and will change in the decades to come. The question on my mind..."Is the church ready?"

Once upon a time, a couple from Singapore connected with a community center in Uganda through a website based in America—ready to change the lives of hundreds of people in Africa.
Willy and Sharon Ong arrived at Kitega community centre on beautiful Saturday in June 2009. The young couple spent about a month in the Ugandan village, doing everything from teaching and engineering to social work and organizational assistance.
Day in and day out, I pass the younger versions of ourselves, trying to create an identity out of looking like the latest fashion icon (within their financial portfolio), behaving in the manner of whoever the "It Girl" is at this current moment. And striving to be known for being themselves while taking on the attributes of whoever is notorious for getting what she wants.
"The Lord has declared today that you are His people, his own special treasure, just as He promised, and that you must obey all His commands." Deuteronomy 26:18 NLT
I want you to ponder that verse for just a moment. We belong to God, we are HIS treasure, and we are to obey all that He tells us to do. How much comfort does that bring to you? God takes us as we are, no matter what shape we are in. So often we are not accepted in society until we reach a certain standard, which is often difficult to attain to, if not downright impossible. But God accepts us as is, no warranty needed. It really bugs me that women are especially held to a physical standard while God accepts us as is. But that is beside the point.
