Summary:

Samaritan Inns’ goal is that every homeless addict who desires help will have effective opportunities to receive the help needed.  There are two dimensions to the Samaritan Inns’ vision:  (1) to provide housing and rehabilitation to homeless addicts in an environment emphasizing support and accountability; and (2) to share its experience, strength and hope in ways that enable others to effectively embrace this vision.

Samaritan Inns offers a three-phase recovery continuum.  The first phase is a 28-day intensive recovery program enabling participants to rebuild their physical and spiritual health.  Phase two is a six-month transitional living program which enables formerly homeless recovering addicts to practice living their new recovery lifestyle.  The third phase is an affordable housing program that enables formerly homeless addicts in recovery to reinforce their recovery lifestyle for up to two years until they are ready for fully independent living.

Samaritan Inns’ vision is captured in co-founder K. Killian Noe’s book, Finding Our Way Home:  Additions and Divine Love, which can be requested at this site.  Also, a recent article about Samaritans Inns is available online from the The Chronicle of Philanthropy, http://philanthropy.com/free/articles/v17/i10/10003901.htm.

Samaritan Inns also has developed a mentoring partnership network called Shared Hope (http://www.sharedhope.net/), through which it seeks to help other organizations implement programs using the experience, expertise, and information that it has developed and successfully implemented in its own programs.  It involves a commitment between Samaritan Inns and its partner to work together toward outcomes identified by its partner according to the vision it has embraced and committed to pursue.

Why does FASTEN recommend this resource?

Samaritan Inns’ successful and cost-effective programs provide an excellent model for other organizations seeking to reach out to homeless addicts.  In addition, its Shared Hope mentoring partnership network affords other organizations the opportunity to benefit from Samaritan Inns’ experience.  Information about Shared Hope and how to submit an application is available on the Shared Hope web site.
