5 stars Celebrate Romero anniversary 2010-02-10

Reviewer: M. C. Reidy

March 24, 2010, marks the 30th anniversary of Archbishop Romero's death. This collection of essays provides a great way to remember him and celebrate his legacy. It deals in a very readable fashion with major faith-justice questions. Appropriate for parish adult groups, college courses, and upper level high school classes. I highly recommend it.

5 stars Romero's Legacy: The Call to Peace and Justice 2009-12-27

Reviewer: Mary Wright

While many books and articles have been written about Oscar Romero, I highly recommend this small volume of seven reflections written by leading theologians and pastoral practitioners. The book provides new reflections on social issues that cry out for us to take action. It also offers a progressive Catholic approach to these issues. The book is an easy read and is great for all kinds of adult education.

5 stars Great for group discussion 2009-08-23

Reviewer: Marli

I highly recommend this little book. It provides a clear Christian lens for viewing some of the tough charity and justice questions we face today: poverty, war, race and the economy, capital punishment, and immigration. I was pleased to see two bishops among the contributors. Every chapter inspires and challenges.

Reviewer: Anne

This collection of the annual lectures (2001-07) presented in Camden, New Jersey and sponsored by the Romero Center, is a must read for anyone with a passion for social justice. The presenters address pressing justice issues and point out critical challenges and opportunities. The conversation about the many issues raised needs to continue. I highly recommend this volume as a means of keeping the conversation going.

5 stars Romer'o's Legacy 2009-02-05

Reviewer: James Russell

As a long time adult educator (RCIA), I give this book the highest recommendation. In seven short, very readable chapters, leading Catholic thinkers and doers, including, Fr. Gustavo Gutierrez, Sr. Helen Prejean, Bishop Gumbleton and Prof. Diana Hayes, discuss some of the most important social issues we face in our country and the world: war, poverty, race, capital punishment and immigration. I was happy to see two bishops among the contributors. The forward and introductory chapter both clearly illustrate the link between Archbishop Romero's life and death and the struggles lived out by America's minorities and urban poor. The role of the Eucharist and its relation to the quest for justice and charity is central to each chapter. Sunday liturgy is not a shield for the world but an invitation and incentive to become involved. The book is perfect for adult education groups. Each chapter is followed by reflection questions that will spark discussion.
