Pamela & the Nepal Children Welfare Association: A Perfect Match

Pamela with two of the children at the orphanage

Pamela was looking for a chance to care for children at an orphanage. Her search on ChristianVolunteering.org would eventually lead all the way from her home in Singapore to the Nepal Children Welfare Association (www.fmorphan.org).

Once Pamela arrived in Nepal, she quickly became a crucial part of the children's lives at the orphanage. She taught them lessons, helped with their homework, served them meals, bathed them, and took them around the village to church, school, and the doctor's office.

The orphanage was grateful for her service, and for that of others who found them through ChristianVolunteering.org. Krishna, the orphanage director, says, "[I]t will be a great help if you could provide the volunteers continually" who have "a real heart to serve the orphanage's children."

Pamela was blessed by her time of service, especially by the close relationships she formed with the children. "I was like an older sister to [them]," she says. "The most rewarding aspect of volunteering is knowing that you impacted the children with the love you gave them and the attention they got from you...[W]hen they tell you, 'I love you, please don't go'...you know you made a difference in their lives, but it's also harder to leave."

Pamela grew closer to God while volunteering because she learned how much she had to depend on Him. Volunteering also "made [her] a better and more responsible, caring person, as [she] helped the children through their daily issues."

Her best advice for prospective volunteers is simple: "Give as much love as you can."
