My Story

I don't really know when it began. Or even why.

I was brought up in a wonderful Christian home with two parents who fully imparted God's love to me, and nurtured in the faith by an excellent urbanministry.org/theology" class="" title="Theology & Biblical Social Justice Resources">Bible-believing urbanministry.org/churches-0" class="" title="Church Resources">church. I came to know and love Jesus in a very authentic relationship in early childhood.

I didn't struggle with most of the temptations urbanministry.org/under-resourced-audience" class="" title="Urban Resources">urban teenagers encounter: drugs, alcohol, cheating at school, fighting, stealing. I had a superego the size of a Wal-Mart. Yet, sexual fantasy was a challenge for me, a source of incredible guilt and torment. Fortunately, through high school, I had limited exposure to explicit material.

The Oxford English Dictionary defines an incentive as "Something that arouses feeling or incites to action". If the only thing that will do this for your employees is money then you have problems. Of course people want financial returns for their work - they have to live and, yes, financial incentives work in many situations, but let's look at some of the other reasons people may come to work.

It is worth considering volunteer organizations when we want to look at peoples' motivations. They don't get paid yet many volunteers devote much time and hard work to their favourite causes. Often they risk their lives in fire and rescue type organizations.

Many Christian authors send their publications to our magazine for review and in the summer the un-reviewed books are put out for employees to take home. As an admitted book worm and broke urbanministry.org/http%3A//www.techmissioncorps.org" class="" title="Techmission Corps">intern this made my day! Is this a Christian book? I thought the book was more suitable for Cosmopolitan or an episode of Sex and the City than a faith and justice magazine. Didn’t Ethridge know we were in an election year? As a single woman I like to read about marriage in preparation for my own.
