Volunteer Chore Services of King County
|
Mission Statement
Volunteer Chore Services is committed to helping elders and adults with disabilities remain independent in their own homes through a network of caring community members. VCS collaborates with faith-based congregations, civic groups, schools and community businesses to provide services. The services are provided at no charge and serve as a safety net for those individuals who cannot afford to pay for assistance and do not qualify for paid chore assistance.
Description
In 1981 the Federal Government cut funding from their service to the homebound program leaving thousands of people in Washington State without the resources needed to remain independent and connected to their communities. Volunteer Chore Services, a program of Catholic Community Services, is a community based non-profit program born shortly thereafter to try and fill this need. VCS serves over 818 elderly and disabled adults in King County and logs over 42,000 volunteer hours annually.
