Mission Statement
To unlock the God-given potential of disadvantaged children in Egypt and so transform a generation who will have the courage to transform the next.
Description
Coptic Orphans was founded in 1988 when Egyptian-American Nermien Riad returned to the Egypt of her early childhood on a tour of duty with the US government. She found a country that, despite a rich heritage and decades of foreign aid, still grappled with widespread poverty and illiteracy. She organized volunteers in Egypt and members of the Coptic Diaspora abroad for the common cause of a better Egypt.
Today, as a professional Coptic development organization, we stand where our founder began in 1988: with feet firmly planted both in native Egypt and in nations of diaspora around the world. We leverage worldwide professional expertise and global resources so that the children of Egypt can break the cycle of poverty for themselves and others.
Organizational Statement of Faith
Our work is for the glory of God alone. All of our activities are consistent with our Christian faith. We maintain the highest levels of integrity, accountability, and excellence in order to become faithful stewards who return to the master our talents multiplied many times over. We welcome participants regardless of religion, race, gender, or ethnicity because our work bears witness to the perfect love and justice of God's Kingdom.
Our commitment to a Christian development approach
Participants in our programs are full bearers of every inherent dignity and human right because they are created in the image of God. By increasing the capacity to understand, access, and exercise their rights, participants can realize their true identity and discover their true calling: to bear witness to the Kingdom of God by becoming agents of transformation in their families, communities, and nation.
