Mission Statement

Motivated by the love of God, our mission is to reach out in service among women of the Slate Belt. “Connections for Women” exists to provide a place where relationships among women begin and develop into life giving, life changing and life strengthening experiences. We seek to encourage women to realize their full potential by directing them to utilize the tools available to them through public and private services and by offering personal support as they become advocates for themselves and their families.

Description

Connections for Women is a faith-based 501(c)3 corporation who goals are to encourage, equip and empower women living in the Slate Belt communities of northeastern Pennsylvania. Our vision is to see area women become aware of area services and programs and be supported through intentional healthy relationships.

The Slate Belt area of Pennsylvania is located within the northern tier of Northampton County and covers approximately 120 square miles. It consists of ten communities and two school districts. The area is mostly rural with several small to medium-sized towns.

Our research has shown that many women living in the Slate Belt communities feel disconnected and isolated. Additionally services are far from our communities and those needing assistance must travel to Easton, Bethlehem and often Allentown to access them. According to a Northampton County Children and Youth caseworker, there are many women who live with crisis as the norm and have no where to go to make friends or establish healthy supportive relationships. Connections for Women will address these issues out of their walk-in resource center located in downtown Bangor, a centrally located borough in the Slate Belt. The Center is open on Mondays and Fridays and hosts ongoing educational and social programs in the Gathering Room. A Resource Room is available for use by Center guests. Our plan is to have several computers available to the guests that will allow them to check email and access the internet as well as utilize the office equipment to support them as they reach their goals.

Organizational Statement of Faith

• We believe in one God, Creator and Lord of the Universe, the Trinity: Father, Son, Holy Spirit.
• We believe that Jesus Christ, God's Son, was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, and lived a sinless life. He died on the cross, removing our guilt and reconciling us to God. He rose bodily from the dead and ascended into heaven where He is the only mediator between God and man.
• We believe that all Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness, that the believer may be adequate, equipped for every good work.
• We believe in one holy, universal and apostolic Church, which is called to worship God, preach the Gospel, make disciples, promote righteousness and justice, and relieve human need.
• We believe the Holy Spirit persuades us to repent of our sins, renews our hearts, gifts each believer with special abilities to serve God and the Church, and causes the Church and its people to grow in Christian maturity
• We believe that Christ will return to raise the dead, judge all people, and establish His glorious Kingdom
