Student Ministry Job Description

Student Minister: Full Time 35-40 hours

 

                       Title:        Student Minister

            Reports to:       Senior Pastor

          Works with:       Volunteers & Parents

            Supervises:      Volunteer Youth Staff

                    Scope:        The Student Minister is responsible to train and develop a team of volunteers to minister to the students of Judson Baptist Church. The desired result of the youth ministry is for students to become passionate followers of Jesus Christ. The minister must have a clear understanding of Judson Baptist Church’s purpose, vision and values, as well as the youth ministry’s desired result. Student Minister should relate well within the teen cultures in our communities, understand volunteer staff, parents, God's power, and their role within the ministry.       

 

Within Judson’s Student Ministry: 

·         Contribute to a comprehensive transformation path for the youth of Judson Baptist.

·         Coordinate the transition between fifth grade, junior high and high school to college freshmen.

·         Plan semester calendars and annual budgets; discuss needs of high school and junior high students.

·         Plan, implement, and frequently communicate vision and goals for junior high and high school groups.

 

Unique Qualifications:    The Student Minister will be expected to be cross-cultural in attitude and approach, balancing efforts toward youth who vary in regard to race, family setting and culture.  He will minister to both urban and suburban youth and will be expected to grow in his abilities to minister to both.

Ministry to Students (40%)

·         Plan Sunday morning and evening ministries; prepare and teach lessons; creatively prepare videos, games, testimonies, drama, and music

·         Plan and prepare mid‑week activity, lesson, discussion, music

·         Disciple student servant leaders

·         Plan to spend time with youth at youth sporting events and activities

·         Plan intentional time with potential student leaders.

·         Oversee and direct activities and trips, such as missions and summer camp. 

·         Delegate opportunities to high school students and high school staff leaders

·         Pray diligently for the students of JBC

·         Be visible and active in the local schools and plan outreach into our communities

Ministry to Parents & Student Ministry Volunteer Staff (40%)

  •   Recruit 4 new volunteer team members

·         Mentor, coach, evaluate, and encourage youth leaders.

·         Serve leaders by providing resources to them when needed

  •    Pray for volunteer leaders of the youth

·         Oversee the interview process of all new lay staff candidates, ensuring appropriate background checks and compliance with the procedures of Judson Baptist Church

·         Oversee and direct the preparation of brochures, parent newsletters {fall & spring semesters}, and ministry budgets.

·         Review and evaluate vision, goals, and program with senior pastor

·         Oversee and direct parent meetings

·         Minister by phone, e‑mail, and letters 

·         Counsel with parents.

·         Plan one “outing” a semester for leadership development

Ministerial Issues (20%)

·         Periodically observe, attend, and teach in activities and staff meetings. 

·         Assist in planning & teaching seminars

·         Assist with funerals and baptisms.

·         Participate in Staff Meetings

·         Participate in “all-church” events and leadership gatherings

·         Contribute to the development of Parent Equipping Classes and seminars targeted to parents of junior & senior high school students

·         Provide a quarterly ministry report to the elders.
