Youth Worker- Service Description Position

Position Description
This full-time position is part of an AmeriCorps National program and will assist with youth programs based in the Greater Boston Vineyard church. The Corps member will primarily focus on direct service with youth (more details below). The position requires a minimum of a one-year commitment, with a minimum of 1,700 hours of service. Duties include:
• Developing and overseeing after-school programs and events for youth
• Co-facilitating an enrichment/college-prep program to high school juniors and seniors
• Co-facilitating an enrichment program to middle and high school students
• Assisting with volunteer recruitment, training, and management
• Assisting with student recruitment
• Assisting with fundraising
• Providing other direct support for the youth programs, as needed
Requirements and Qualifications
Applicants for this program must have an undergraduate degree; must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Applicants should have good interpersonal skills, an ability to work with at-risk youth and have a desire to learn. Experience in working with diverse communities is desired, as well as experience in non-profit community or faith-based organizations.
Benefits
This position will provide a basic living stipend for the year of $11,100 and health insurance. Child care benefits are available if needed. Also, the Greater Boston Vineyard will provide a monthly MBTA transit pass. After completing the year, the AmeriCorps member may be eligible to receive an educational award of $4,725 to pay off past student loans or future schooling. In addition, repayment of Federal student loans may be put on hold for the duration of the year that you are an AmeriCorps member. AmeriCorps benefits do not affect eligibility to continue receiving government benefits based on need (e.g. food stamps, WIC, welfare, veterans benefits, and HUD subsidized housing).
