Urban internship - City Summer 08
The summer intern program at the New Orleans Mission will run from June 2 – August 8. Interns will participate in daily Bible study and be involved in a local community church (three blocks from the Mission). They will help with the general operations of our facilities, our programs, special events and community outreach to the Central City area. Interns will receive food and housing and may raise support for a summer stipend.
A brief overview of the New Orleans Mission:
Our programs
- Overnight shelters for men and women, meaning the clients participate in chapel service, dinner and then go to bed and leave in the morning.
- A one-year discipleship program for men recovering from substance abuse. They stay onsite for 12 months and have Bible study, 12 steps programs, educational classes and work therapy.
- A four-month, transitional housing program for single mothers with full-time employment. We're in the process of getting this program up and running.
Our facilities
- Men's Shelter – much of the maintenance activities happen in the Men's Shelter. We need help with laundry, cleaning, painting, carpentry and sorting/organizing donations!
- Family Center – need help with cleaning
- Women's Center – need help with laundry, cleaning, organizing
Special events
We host special events to raise money and establish relationships with prospective clients and donors. We're hosting a community dinner in June. Other events may arise.
Community Outreach
Interns will help us host vacation bible school, a yard sale and outreach events to the homeless this summer.
