Staff Accountant
Summary
The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining and providing accurate and thorough financial information for internal and external sources as needed, requested or required for management, decision making, or required reporting.
Responsible to the President/CEO
Duties and Responsibilities
The Staff Accountant:
1.                  Maintains an accounting system in keeping with generally accepted accounting principles.
2.                  Maintains and manages financial information systems for all accounting and financial reporting/management functions which are accurate, complete, and useful.
3.                  Oversees a system for the timely completion and distribution of paychecks and required payroll reports
4.                  Prepares and distributes detailed monthly financial reports to staff with assigned responsibilities for managing budgeted accounts.
5.                  Prepares monthly financial statement and reports prior to and in preparation for the Finance Committee.
6.                  Maintains and manages all local, state, and federal tax records and corporate reporting requirements.
7.                  Prepares for and provides details and information required for the annual audit.
8.                  Provides the CEO with full disclosure of expenditures and revenues as needed or requested.
9.                  Maintains accurate and complete accounts payable and receivable records
10.              Ensures maintenance of effective internal controls to assure safeguarding of assets and reliability of financial statements.
11.              Assists in resolving accounting and financial problems and/or issues.
12.              Ensures complete and up-to-date operating procedures for all accounting and financial controls.
13.              Assists in the preparation of annual budgets and cash flow projections.
14.              Serves as an ex-officio member of the Finance Committee of the Board.
15.              Reviews all receipts and disbursements, ascertains correct account distribution and ensures that all supporting documentation is accurate and in order.
16.              Assists in preparing special cost studies as needed and/or required.
17.              Provides financial data for grant reporting and proposals.
18.              Process and review all invoices, purchase orders, and monthly cash card requests.
19.              Performs additional duties as requested by the CEO and Board Treasurer.
Qualifications
  1. Thorough understanding of nonprofit accounting, bookkeeping, and financial management information requirements. 
  2. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills. 
  3. Formal education in accounting required. (CPA preferred or demonstrated equivalent in education and experience.)
 
Essential Functions
  1. Ability to manage and monitor all financial policies and procedures for the organization.
  2. Ability to insure that GAAP and FASB regulations are implemented and followed.
  3. Ability to provide timely, complete, and accurate financial reports and information as required or requested by the CEO, auditors, and/or Board of Trustees.
 
Physical and Time Demands
The Business Manager/Accountant position requires:
A. Ability to work 20-30 standard office hours with periodic evening and weekend work.
B. Ability to frequently use a computer, telephone and fax machine.
C. Ability to spend a majority of each work day sitting and indoors.
E. Ability to, on occasion, stand, walk, bend, drive and spend time outdoors.
