Resident Ministry Leader
Position Overview
The Resident Ministry Leader will have job responsibilities in 3 main areas: the Gateway Program, the children/youth programs, and general ministry support.
1) The first responsibility will be living at the Gateway House to provide an onsite staff presence for the participants of the Gateway Program. The purpose is to provide Christian guidance and oversight to activities of the residents, especially in the evening hours. The participants will be peers in age which will require strong interpersonal skills to maneuver skillfully.
2) The second priority is to develop our other community programs which are in infancy now. We have a twice weekly Backyard Bible Club, summer vacation Bible School, and occasional events. With the right management, this can grow into a well-run volunteer ministry. We need someone to develop this. Other programs include community garden, food pantry, tutoring, youth and adult sports teams, and youth enterprise.
3) With a small staff, many tasks are delegate out to the entire team. We all take part in these and find ways to serve. Making copies, recruiting at schools, attending meetings, writing articles, delivering food, and making phone calls.
This is a full time position, but most of the work will happen in “off hours” after 3:00 p.m., evenings and weekends. Because of this, it is possible to pursue studies. Tuesday morning staff meeting is a required “work hours” meeting. Agape will provide free housing and utilities, some benefits, but the applicant will be responsible for a significant portion of the support raising.
Essential Job Functions
· Develop friendships with residents and gain trust.
· Invest in the spiritual lives of residents through personal interactions.
· Confront any rules violations and uphold the high standards of the program.
· Document all services and resident notes for the files.
· Communicate written and verbally to the staff and the residents.
· Maintain order and structure in the Gateway Residence through influence more than authority.
· Recruit new participants to Gateway through the neighborhood and Yates High School
· Reach out to the neighborhood kids through the backyard Bible Program.
· Occasionally transport residents to events or meetings offsite.
· Assist with any other Agape Development Ministries programs.
Requirements
· Reside in the Gateway House
· Be available and onsite for the Gateway residents as least 4 nights per week.
· Participate in weekly staff meetings to debrief the resident activity and progress.
· Attend and assist with occasional community events.
· Follow Jesus and live with integrity at all times to model this life.
· Be able to raise part of the salary from friends, family, supporting churches.
Other Skills/Abilities
· Must have valid driver’s license, a vehicle, and adequate driving record.
· Very capable computer knowledge: MS Word and MS Excel a must!!
· Flexible attitude and ministry heart. This not just a nine to five. This is not doctor patient.
COMPENSATION
The annual salary for this position is $18,000. Raising financial support will be part of the responsibility of the Resident Ministry Leader, and the exact percentage to be raised by the employee will be discussed on an individual basis. Additionally, Agape will provide free housing (all bills paid), health insurance (employer paid premiums), and some meals free.
Agape will provide on the job training as well as off site training such as workshops, conferences, and coursework.
