General Description
The Fellowship of Hispanic Pastors of New England, or Confraternidad de Pastores Hispanos de Nueva Inglaterra (COPAHNI) is launching Vale Esperar, an abstinence education program targeting youth, parents and youth workers primarily in Latino communities in the cities of Boston, Providence, Hartford, and Lawrence
The Program Director is responsible for the overall development and implementation of the Vale Esperar Abstinence Education Program (VE). This includes oversight of a large federal grant, management of all program activities, supervision of paid and volunteer personnel and serving as the primary contact with the community.
Vale Esperar will provide sexuality and relationship education for 1,000 students annually and provide support and information for parents.
Responsibilities: The Vale Esperar Program Director:
o will supervise Field Coordinators (2), direct training for staff, and ensure that curricula are updated for medical accuracy, age appropriateness, cultural competency, and alignment with Federal requirements; ;
o will review project operations to ensure coordination of efforts and timely submission of reports, plus evaluate program effectiveness and budgetary needs
Qualifications:.
- Advanced degree in a health-related field and/or non-profit management.
- Should possess extensive project management experience.
- Must have strong communication, organizational, interpersonal and analytical skills, be able to write effectively, be skilled at public speaking, and be competent in applying problem-solving skills.
- A working knowledge of prevailing sexuality/abstinence educational programs preferred.
- Must have a strong commitment to premarital sexual abstinence and be fully supportive of the guiding principles of COPAHNI.
- Experience in public relations and community organizing is strongly desired.
- Fluent in Spanish.
- While not required, a strong preference for a candidate possessing:
Ø Familiarity and affinity with Latino culture
Ø Experience with churches, community-based organizations, and youth workers
Reports to: Executive Director, COPAHNI
Projected Start Date: March 1, 2009
Compensation: commensurate with experience
