Pastoral Intern
POSITION: Pastoral Intern
TERM: Nine Months to One Year
OBJECTIVE: To provide opportunities for personal growth and development while at the same time learning pastoral skills to a potential future urban pastor as he serves within a church setting.
CONTEXT: Open Door has a particular passion for the vulnerable, the poor, and the disregarded of our city. From the economically depressed to the socially disgraced, Open Door seeks to bring God’s grace to people’s deepest needs. We are “a church with a heart for the city” that acts upon this passion in tangible ways. We are a multi-denominational protestant church affiliated with several major denominations. We value ethnic and racial diversity and desire to foster a multi-cultural environment. Our church includes the poor, the rich, and the in-between and we focus on our unity in Christ. Our church falls within the evangelical segment of the protestant church in America.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Act as evening worship service coordinator. Duties include: announcements, leading prayer, scripture reading, assisting with communion, and occasional preaching
• Participate in ad/or lead a weekly small group Bible study
• Participate in and/or lead weekly Sunday School Class
• Be an active participant in the EAT meal, making himself available for prayer and counsel as needed
• Weekly Participant of Daily Christian Fellowship study
• Attend weekly pastoral meeting
• Work with Outreach Pastor to develop outreach and evangelism opportunities
• Develop and lead informational seminar for staff
• Develop the Audio/Visual ministry for worship services
• Meet weekly in a discipleship relationship with one of the pastoral staff
• Attend ODM New Staff Training monthly
• Work with pastoral staff to identify and develop pastoral skills necessary for future ministry
• Attend quarterly chapel services
• Open Door Urban Missions duties as assigned
• Other duties deemed necessary by pastoral staff
OTHER INFORMATION:
• Pastoral intern will have two personal days per week
• Personal transportation is responsibility of pastoral intern
• Support will be raised by pastoral intern
