Background:

The Metropolitan District of The Christian & Missionary Alliance is a not-for-profit Christian organization that serves all of New Jersey, the five boroughs of New York City, Long Island and Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester Counties of New York.  Our mission is to equip leaders to experience leadership excellence so that they can develop strategic ministries that produce multiplied impact in their churches, communities, and the world.  One specific strategy of the Metropolitan District is to help resource our district churches who are engaged in community development and compassion ministries which produce transformation in families and communities.

Review of Needs and Recipients:

We are seeking a consultant/grant writer that would mentor our executive directors in capacity building, board development, grant readiness, and teach how to write grants and maximize their organization’s funding streams and effectiveness.  There are 3 main organizations that will participate and benefit from these services:

1.  Agua Viva: This is a missions project located in Bound Brook, NJ.  Through Agua Viva ministries, volunteers have the opportunity to serve the Hispanic population of Bound Brook and the surrounding communities.  Agua Viva attempts to meet these needs in an ongoing way by showing love and compassion as they serve through after-school programs, ESL classes, gifts of love, and more.  It is our goal to see people’s lives changed and individuals made whole through our services.

2.  Urban Promise:  The mission of Urban Promise New York (UPNY) is to provide a safe, inviting, and stimulating environment where opportunities for children to improve their academic performance, develop important life skills, create positive relationships with caring adults, explore the creative arts, and nurture young faith can be met.  This afterschool program enables us to teach children and young adults the skills necessary for spiritual growth, academic achievement, life management and Christian leadership.

3.  Living Hope Empowerment Center:  This ministry is a recognized not-for-profit, faith-based organization whose mission is to “holistically empower urban families.”  The Living Hope Empowerment Center is intent on establishing collaborative partnerships with local organizations, churches, and private agencies, in order to offer a comprehensive range of programs and initiatives including educational, vocational, recreational, cultural, spiritual, and motivational training

The successful applicant will work for all three organizations, bring them together periodically for group and collaborative training, and meet the objectives stated above.  The maximum fee that will be received for these services is $10,000 per participating organization, not to exceed $30,000.

Applicant Qualifications/Requirements:

All applicants must possess a graduate degree in business, not-for-profit management, community development, or a similar field.  Minimum of five years experience required in one of these fields (particular interest in the not-for-profit sector.)  Experience working with religious organizations is preferred, but not required.  Local resident from the NJ/NY Metropolitan area with familiarity of the region is a plus.

All interested parties must submit 2 copies of the following material:  cover letter and resume with complete contact information, portfolio of not-for-profit work/projects previously completed, approach to learning and development, proposed activities and objectives, 3 professional references, projected number of hours/week needed to produce outcome, desired income and projected budget.
