Rainier Avenue Church (RAC) is located in the heart of Seattle’s Rainier Valley, in what has been referred to as “the most ethnically diverse zip code in the nation”. Its mission is to

RAC is a church of over 300 who represent over 30 different ethnic backgrounds, and as many language groups. Our people span 80 years in age and come from all socio-economic walks of life. RAC believes in wholistic ministry and is in partnership with a number of other local ministries to provide services to our community. We have a growing number of young families and currently minister to approximately 90 children on a Sunday morning, and are in relationship with 30 youth.
Rainier Avenue Church is part of the Free Methodist Church of North America (fmcna.org) which adheres to a Wesleyan/Arminian theology.

Director for Children, Youth & Family Ministries
A. Qualifications:
- Christian maturity and a continued nurture of personal relationship with Jesus.
- Commitment to live out the mission and values of Rainier Avenue Church.
- Experience working with children, youth and their families.
- Experience working with multi-ethnic groups and a commitment to ongoing training in urban, cross-cultural, holistic ministry.
- Able to implement an educational approach that deals with curriculum, behavior management, and age appropriate structure and development of learning skills.
- Able to implement an approach that deals with family systems, referral and advocacy, and community development.
- Able to understand the ‘big picture’ of ministry and provide leadership necessary to implement and oversee the vision.
- Gifts of leadership and administration, good spoken & written communication, computer literate.
- Able to develop, monitor, and spend budget responsibly.
- Flexible, adaptable, resilient, and teachable.
- Ability to work well with others and maintain confidences.
- Willing to become a member of Rainier Avenue Church.
B. Organizational Relationships:
- Reports directly to the Pastor for Ministry Mobilization and exercises the ministry under her oversight and counsel.
- Serves on Executive Leadership Team with Senior Pastor, Pastor of Discipleship, Pastor for Ministry Mobilization, and Director of Urban Impact @ Rainier Avenue Church.
- Serves as a Ministry Team Leader and supervises all volunteer staff for Children and Youth Ministries.
C. Functional Responsibilities
- Cast vision for ministry to children, youth and families.
- Build programs that teach and promote biblical foundations and faith for children & youth that lead them to know, love and serve Jesus (including, but not limited to: two services Sunday mornings , mid-week, Bible Quiz, Mother-to-Mother nursery and preschool development, Summer Day Camp, Preschool Fun Camp, Youth Retreats, etc.).
- Develop and implement a strategic plan for family ministries in our congregation and community, along with the Director of Urban Impact @ RAC, and the Pastor for Discipleship.
- Recruit, train and coach volunteer staff and interns working with children, youth and families.
- Implement and maintain compliance with the Abuse Prevention Policy of Rainier Avenue Church together with Ministry Partners Coordinator.
- Oversee and coordinate the budget, facilities and equipment used by Children, Youth and Family Ministries.
E. Specifics
- This is a full-time position, beginning January 3, 2011
- Annual salary and benefits in accordance with approved policy,
- Benefits include two weeks paid vacation (after a 90 day evaluation period) for the first 2 years, 3 weeks thereafter
- An initial 2-year commitment is desired
- Regular attendance at Sunday worship and active participation in the life of the church is assumed
