Child Learning Specialists and Child Learning Supervisor

Stepping Stones Christian Center
Beginning August 31, 2009 Stepping Stones Christian Center will launch a five-month (15/hours per week - time approved for practicum hours for NYU, CUNY, Columbia, Fordham, Adelphi, and other New York City area colleges) Early Childhood Development Internship program for college seniors and graduate students studying Early Childhood Development, Education, or any related discipline.
After a selective interview process is conducted, 4 Child Learning Specialists and 1 Child Learning Supervisor will be selected from a pool of applicants, to work directly with the children of Stepping Stones Daycare in Bedstuy-Brooklyn.
Child Learning Specialists:
Child Learning Specialists must have previous experience in childcare and preferably in education. The selected team of specialists will determine the most appropriate curriculum they would like to use based as much as possible on existing Stepping Stones resources/materials. Each specialist will be assigned three children (age 2-6 years) and will have the responsibility of developing the following basic skills and competencies:
• Reading Skills (i.e. Learning the Alphabets)
• Basic Mathematics (i.e. Counting, etc)
• Basic Writing Skills
• Basic Morals & Social Skills (Behavioral Management, Manners, Attitude Development, etc)
• Basic Motor Skills (Tying Shoes, Handling Silverware, Other Basic Skills)
• Communication Skills
• Emotional Health (Understanding and Managing Feelings/Emotions)
• Other Childhood Development Criteria As Necessary
Child Learning Supervisor
The Child Learning Supervisor must have previous child development or education experience. He/She will be responsible for developing specific, measurable criteria by which to test and chart the progress and growth of children in the program. He/She must also have previous supervisory skills, because he/she is responsible for addressing any deficiencies during the course of the internship.
At Stepping Stones Christian Center, interns are treated with the utmost respect, and their contribution is highly valued. Interns are evaluated by an experienced educator with an Ed.D. degree and are given direct access to the children’s development. Interns are in many ways the stepping stones to unlocking their future. Each intern must have a genuine heart and skilled mind that can understand and provide leadership to the children of today.
