AmeriCorps VISTA Leader - Volunteer Coordinator Support

United Saints Recovery Project
The mission of the United Saints Recovery Project (USRP) is to assist economically distressed neighborhoods recover from disaster and become more resilient to the disasters of the future. United Saints Recovery Project is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with its headquarters located in the heart of New Orleans. This past Spring, United Saints have begun lending our efforts in Tuscaloosa, AL in providing disaster relief after an extremely large tornado outbreak destroyed several areas in Southern, Midwestern, and Northeastern United States - producing catastrophic destruction especially across the state of Alabama. We have recently been approved by the Corporation of National and Community Service the funding necessary to hire 4 VISTA leaders to help set up a strong foundation in Alabama. We are looking for passionate, dedicated leaders who will help us launch our satellite office in Tuscaloosa.
Key Duties and Responsiblities will include the following, but is not limited to:
Create volunteer information packet for recruiting volunteers, orientation and safety guides, handbook for client relations, city guide for short-term volunteers, job descriptions for long-term volunteers
Create database for tracking volunteer hours and accomplishments
Manage online survey for exiting volunteers
Network with local and national colleges, universities, service groups and individuals to recruit volunteers for direct service in low-income communities
Coordinate with project staff to delegate volunteer groups to various projects
Train volunteers in the protocols of completing time sheets, activity logs, and volunteer satisfaction surveys
Use data to compile assessement of the impact of United Saints' volunteers on the first year of Tuscaloosa's recovery
Train volunteers to implement homeowner satisfaction survey to identify any service gaps or areas of improvement
Develop plain language release forms for clients who participate
Work closely with Media/PR staff to recruit volunteers using social media outlets
Job Requirements:
Must be at least 21 years old
Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident of the U.S.
Applicants must live in Tuscaloosa, AL or its surrounding areas, or be willing to relocate
A Bachelor's Degree is preferred, however some college combined and/or work experience may substitute for a degree.
Successful completion of one AmeriCorps service term or significant experience with community service and/or non-profit organization work
At least 1-year commitment
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong organizational and leadership skills
Excellent attention to detail and follow-through skills
Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and projects at the same time
Self-starter who can work independently and on a team
Good research/analysis skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Powerpoint, and various online tools
