Introductions
I’m new to this, so why don’t we start with introductions. My name is Mark Hemenway. I’m President of New England Prison Ministries. We bring the Gospel inside state and county facilities in Massachusetts, mentor discharged prisoners, pastor the chaplains and whatever else comes up in the course of a day. Our web site is www.nepm.org .
I started preaching and teaching inside. But began to run into men and women in a complete panic about getting out- not just the practical things like housing and jobs, but the emotional issues around freedom, sobriety and new life. Success on the outside requires a new way of thinking, a new way of relating, a new way of living. It requires transformation. Who knows more about transformation, I thought, than us Christians? So here we are. We aim to help released prisoners stay out of jail.
What about you? What are you doing? What is the Spirit telling you to do? Where is your heart? Why do you do this? Why are you drawn to helping discharged prisoners building new lives?
