The Marin Community Foundation limits their giving to organizations in the Marin County, CA area. However, they do give nationally and internationally with an emphasis on the San Francisco Bay Area.

The Ford Foundation (Grant)

Geographic Focus Limitations: 

The Ford Foundation awards grants nationally and globally (including Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Russia, Latin America, and the Caribbean).

Funding Limitations: 

The foundation does not provide support for programs that already receive substantial support from the government.  The Ford Foundation does not award grants for routine operation costs, building construction or maintenance, educational scholarships (undergraduate), graduate fellowships, nor personal or local needs.

 

The foundation also does not award grants to organizations that emphasize religious sectarian programs or activities.

 

 

Areas of Interest Description: 

The Ford Foundation is interested in providing support for organiations devoted to strengthening democratic values, reducing poverty and social injustice, supporting human achievement and international cooperation. The foundation's grants focus on three categories: 1) community development and asset building; 2) knowledge, creativity, and freedom; 3) social justice and peace initiatives.

The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation (Grant)

Funding Limitations:

The General Program that is responsible for supporting public interest related items such as the media (i.e.--public radio, documentary programming, etc.) and work that explores the use of digital technologies that aid in reaching and engaging the public.

The MacArthur Fellows Program which awards five year, unrestricted fellowships to individuals that show strong merit and promise in academia

International issues (i.e.--human rights, international justice, peace and security, etc.)

Issues that primarily affect the United States such as community and economic development and housing

Interest media such as public radio, documentary based programming, and works that explore the use of digital technologies that reach and engage the public

Laffey-McHugh Foundation (Grant)

Geographic Focus Limitations: 

Appears to primarily provide funding for organizations based Delaware, but has a history of allocating funds to organizations in the following states:  Maryland, California, Pennsylvania, New York, Colorado, Massachusetts, Washington, and Texas.

It will not provide General Operating support to organizations

The Foundation does not provide funding for disaster relief

Visiting the foundation is heavily discouraged

There is an Online Funding Inquiry form that should be used for funding request; this form is reviewed by the foundation

All proposal submissions are done based on an invitation only basis; if the foundation becomes interested in a tentative project, they will send an invitation to submit a Full Proposal via email.  Along with this invite, they will also provide the Foundation's Proposal Application form

Wege Foundation (Grant)

Geographic Focus Limitations: 

Appears to grant funding in the Michigan area, but has a history of granting funding in the following states:  New York, Illinois, Washington D.C., and Georgia.

Funding Limitations: 

Generally fund organization's located in the Western Michigan area; preference given to projects in the Grand Rapids, Michigan area.

Will generally consider capital projects that seek LEED certification under the U.S. Green Building Council’s guidelines

Must complete and submit a preliminary grant form

The Foundation may conduct a site visit to the organization to determine if they meet their foundation's eligibility requirements
