City Vision College has entered into a major partnership with the US Central Territory of the Salvation Army to provide interns for their urban corps in the Midwest. The program will initially involve local corps in the cities of Flint MI, St. Louis MO and Kansas City MO. If all goes well, it will expand to other urban centers
People with intellectual disabilities represent nearly two per cent of the world's population, or some 130 million people. Because of stigma and discrimination, a majority are excluded from education, training and employment. In this film, representatives of governments, employers, trade unions and disability advocates from East African countries, Australia and the United Kingdom examine what is possible for persons with intellectual disabilities, and persons with intellectual disabilities have an opportunity to describe what work means to them.

A new report from the Brookings Institution examines how the suburbanization of poverty has changed the 100 largest metro areas in the country over the last decade. Non-profit groups serving the suburban poor have seen a staggering 73 percent increase in first-time applicants, and many are unable to offer new clients the relief they need. Many suburban groups also offer coverage to a wider service area than urban agencies, making it more difficult for suburban organizations to serve those in need as the suburban poverty rates catch up with the urban ones. One in seven of the suburban non-profits surveyed has been forced to cut caseloads, and one in five has reduced services.
On October 8th, Liu Xiaobo was awaded the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize. For over two decades, Liu Xiaobo has been a strong spokesman for the application of fundamental human rights also in China. He took part in the Tiananmen protests in 1989; he was a leading author behind Charter 08, the manifesto of such rights in China which was published on the 60th anniversary of the United Nations' Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the 10th of December 2008. The following year, Liu was sentenced to eleven years in prison and two years' deprivation of political rights for “inciting subversion of state power". Liu has consistently maintained that the sentence violates both China's own constitution and fundamental human rights.
For a nation that proudly declared it would leave no child behind, America continues to do so at alarming rates. Despite increased spending and politicians promises, our buckling public-education system, once the best in the world, routinely forsakes the education of millions of children.
