FISHING IN VENTURA
On Saturday we went fishing off of Ventura. It was me and 31 others from Harambee mostly children and youth and parents. The trip was sponsored by the men's fellowship group at Glenkirk Presbyterian Church, Rupert Penner and them. Man, did we have a great time. We left the Ventura Harbor (off of Spinnaker Lane) at 9am and returned at 4pm. We had a full day in the open sea. We motored out to Anacapa Island, then dropped anchor about a mile from shore. We moved around a bit as the day progressed, but mostly stayed in that area. We caught a lot of fish. From the first ten minutes, when a little boy's pole started yanking him around, to the five-minute warning at the end of the day, when yours truly dropped a line baited with squid to the bottom (150 down) and immediately got a tug, we were catching fish and flopping them on to the deck. A good time was had by all. I say thank to the men of Glenkirk for having their usual good time and bringing us along to share in it. (Photos below are by Harambee summer intern Kelly Shackleford.)
This is the kind of day it was.
Just some of the young guys we brought on the trip.
The North Carolinians were yanking up red snapper.
Too many people have seen that movie with the Di Caprio boy.
I got a bite.

"I shall make you fishers..."
