FASTEN En Español

Hispanics of faith are active in serving their communities. In 2003, FASTEN partner Sagamore Faith in Communities conducted a major national survey of Hispanic pastors that revealed that 73 percent of Hispanic Protestant congregations offer at least one social service program in their communities. The survey also showed that Hispanic leaders are hungry for more training and “how-to’s” of operating effective outreach programs.

In light of that felt need, FASTEN is glad to announce that we have recently completed the first installment of translations of resources from the web site into Spanish. The site is housed within the FASTEN Web and is easy to navigate. Please help us spread the word to Spanish-speaking practitioners that many of the helpful articles, toolkits, and resources of FASTEN are now available in Spanish. (1) Respond to the needs and interests of youth?

(2)  Include a mix of youth (not just at-risk youth)?

(3)  Act as part of a comprehensive prevention program that reinforces its lessons and addresses specific factors that influence drug use?

Fundraising Tip

  • Asking for a major gift can be challenging, but fundraising experts offer some simple advice. One, a personal approach is best. Two, the best prospects are people who have already given but you know can afford to give more, and people of means who you know are interested in your cause. Three, use your meeting with the potential donor as a opportunity to ask him/her for names of other potential contributors. If you plan to talk to the donor by phone, rehearse the conversation ahead of time, anticipating questions. Finally, don’t be afraid to be assertive. Believe in your cause!
