Summary:

Family Justice utilizes the experiences of its direct service provider, La Bodega de Familia, which operates on the Lower East Side of New York City, to inform and refine its goal of assisting government agencies and community organizations to reduce recidivism by drawing on the strengths of families.  Family Justice provides direct services, tests new methodologies that promote change, delivers training and consulting services based upon its methods, and serves as a resource for criminal justice professionals and the public.  It promotes a family case management model that works in partnership with government to provide a family systems and strengths-based approach to helping families involved with the justice system.

Family Justice?s Bodega Model is an innovative and award-winning approach which emphasizes a family?s successes and strengths rather than focusing on its weaknesses.  Formal evaluation demonstrated that participants in La Bodega de Familia had significantly reduced rates of drug use and re-incarceration than comparison groups.  Family Justice uses the experiences of the successful Bodega program to provide tools and technical assistance to other organizations and agencies that desire to adopt its approach.
